The Manfreds hit the road one more time

Key members of one of the best bands of the 1960s are reuniting to celebrate their double Jubilee. You will be able to see singers Paul Jones and Mike D’Abo plus the group's original guitarist Tom McGuinness play all the great hits such as Pretty Flamingo

In January 1964 Manfred Mann were asked to compose the theme tune for the ITV pop show "Ready Steady Go" and they came up with "54321" which reached number 5 in the UK charts. "Doo Wah Diddy" was an even bigger hit, it knocked "Hard Days Night" off the Number one spot and sold over 650,000 copies in Britain alone. After conquering America in '65 The Mandreds became the first band to tour the Soviet Union. Many of their most loved hits such as "With God On Our Side", "If You've Gotta Go, Go Now" and "Quinn The Eskimo" were Bob Dylan. After attending a Manfreds concert Bob Dylan describes the group as "really groovy"  and let it be known he approved of all their cover versions

In the late 60s Paul Jones left the band to becomea star of stage and screen for 10 years he appeared in everything from Hair to Cats to The Beggar's Opera but eventually he returned to his R&B roots. With so many great songs in the Manfred Mann repertoire a great night out is guarenteed.

Male, Pale and Stale exhibition at Front Room Gallery, Ramsgate

Male, Pale and Stale” An exhibition at The Front Room Gallery, 10 Bellevue Road, Ramsgate (Thurs 30th March and Wed 12th April) curated by Jo Mama.

“The male is a biological accident: the Y (male) gene is an incomplete X (female) gene, that is, it has an incomplete set of chromosomes. In other words, the male is an incomplete female, a walking abortion, aborted at the gene stage. To be male is to be deficient, emotionally limited; maleness is a deficiency disease and males are emotional cripples.”
―
Valerie Solanas, SCUM manifesto

“The problem with white people is that they just don’t listen. In my experience, day in and day out, most white people are absolutely not receptive to finding out their impact on other people. There is a refusal to know or see, or to listen or hear, or to validate.”

Robin DiAngelo author of White Fragility

"No longer fresh...a person who is stale has done the same thing for too long and so is unable to do it well or produce any new ideas" (Oxford Dictionary)

“Not one of the five artists whose work features in 'Male, Pale and Stale' could claim to be a wet nosed pup or a new kid on the block. Some might say that since birth, these privileged men of good fortune have been showered with opportunities all of which they wasted. I apologise to those of you who would have preferred a serving a fresh meat. But, I ask you to consider the two truisms that “Nothing in the world is ever completely wrong. Even a stopped clock is right twice a day” and “There’s many a good tune played on an old fiddle.” When you come to The Front Room Gallery in Ramsgate please leave your prejudices at the door and enjoy drawings, ceramics, sculptures, and paintings from 5 artists who still have something to say and love to give.” Jo Mama (Curator)
