The Beswick and Pye screen print inspired by Elephant and Castle.

Almost a whole deade ago Gordon Beswick and Harry Pye made a series of 6 different CMYK screen prints in collaboration with Jonas Ranson of Blacklisted Editions. The prints all came in editions of 30 and were printed on lovely 285 gsm Fabriano paper. Gordon Beswick and Harry Pye are two of the 5 artists selected to be Artist In Residence at The London Coffee Festival. Tomorrow afternoon, Gordon Beswick will be at the Festival (1st Floor / Soho section) at Truman Brewery on Brick Lane and he's brought with him the screen print Team Beswick & Pye made of the Elephant & Castle for The Elefest Festival. The signed prints are going to be available at a special low price of £40. If you're interested but can't get to the last day of the festival tomorrow you can drop him a line  at:

Gordon and Harry made 12 individual paintings of people and things they had seen one afternoon in the Elephant & Castle shopping center. The paintings were exhibited as part of a group show called Jolie Laide that took place at The Hotel Elephant Gallery on Newington Causeway in October 2014. The exhibition was part of Elefest which aimed to celebrate one of the most maligned and misunderstood areas of London.

The Jolie Laide show featured work by artists interested in what is and isn't beautiful. The idea behind the show was to exhibit works that were unconventionally appealing or, work that walked a thin line between beautiful and ugly. Artists who exhibited alongside Beswick and Pye included: Craig Crosbie, Mac Honeyman, Kyle Hawkins Sir Peter Blake, Mel Cole, Marcus Cope with Ross Walker, Rose Gibbs, Gavin Nolan, Peter Harris & Ray Davies, Edward Todd, Sandra Turnbull, Zac T Lee, Caroline Gervay, and Julian Wakeling.

You can watch a video of the Jolie Laide exhibition that includes images that inspired Beswick & Pye's artwork: HERE

After Elefest the prints were forgotton about. Team Beswick and Pye would love the last remaining E&C prints to go to a good home.
